I chose freedom as my theme for discussing US history topics and the article I chose talks about how the Montgomery bus boycott was one of many acts to help end segregation in the United States.  The start of the boycott began on Rosa Parks court date and lasted for almost 400 days.  African Americans boycotted all buses in Montogmery, Alabama, to stand against segregated seating.  Martin Luther King Jr. emerged whilst the boycott was still taking place in the midst of the civil rights movement, so the Montgomery bus boycott was a critical event that took place for the freedom and rights of African Americans.

Religious Freedoms in Colonial Times

This months topic is colonial times which fits into my theme of freedom in a religious context well.  The article I chose to write about has to do with religious beliefs and freedoms in the 13 colonies.  The colonies were very diverse and religious beliefs varied often.  There were certain areas which were intolerant to religious freedoms such as land inhabited by the puritans.  If you did not conform to puritan beliefs you were severely punished.  Eventually this ended and religious tolerance was exercised freely.  Religious tolerance increased as time progressed and acceptance over the versatility of religious beliefs the colonists had were accepted.

Immigration in Colonial Times

December 28, 2016

The article linked below details how and why the pilgrims fled to Plymouth in search of the freedom to practice their faith.  Later on the puritans came to do the same, and established the Massachusetts Bay colony.  The article also shows the depths colonists, pilgrims, and more went to when searching for religious and economic opportunities in the new world. Many died on the way, unable to make the treacherous voyage from the east.  The settlements colonial immigrants established helped to drastically form and shape the United States into what it is today.
